Tour Plan
Your guide and private driver will meet you at your chosen pickup point in Luxor (East Bank hotel, West Bank hotel, Nile cruise ship, or Luxor Airport).
You'll receive a warm welcome, a brief introduction to the day's plan, and bottled water before boarding your private, air-conditioned vehicle.
Note: Pickup time is flexible (±30 minutes based on your preference). Confirm exact time 24 hours before tour.
You'll cross the Nile River via the modern bridge or ferry (depending on your pickup location).
Your guide will explain the ancient Egyptian belief in the afterlife and why all tombs and mortuary temples were built on the West Bank – the land of the setting sun and the dead.
Enter the royal necropolis where pharaohs of the New Kingdom (including Tutankhamun, Ramses II, and Ramses III) were buried in deep rock-cut tombs. Your ticket includes entry to 3 tombs of your choice (excluding Tutankhamun and Seti I, which require separate tickets).
Your Egyptologist guide will:
-
Help you select the 3 best tombs based on your interests (art, size, preservation, or historical significance)
-
Explain the meaning of the Book of the Dead scenes on the walls
-
Point out hidden details most visitors miss
Optional add-on (payable locally):
-
Tutankhamun's tomb (approx. 15 USD) – see the pharaoh's mummy in the original burial chamber
-
Seti I tomb (approx. 50 USD) – the longest, deepest, and most beautifully decorated tomb in the valley
Important notice: photography inside tombs without Flash. Your guide will provide detailed verbal descriptions.
Climb the dramatic three-tiered mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt's most successful female pharaoh. Unlike any other temple in Egypt, this architectural masterpiece blends seamlessly into the surrounding limestone cliffs.
Your guide will show you:
-
The Birth Colonnade depicting Hatshepsut's divine creation
-
The Punt reliefs showing an Egyptian expedition to the Land of Punt
-
The Chapel of Hathor with its unique cow-eared columns
-
The vandalized images of Hatshepsut (erased by her stepson Thutmose III)
Accessibility note: The temple has ramps (not just stairs), making it accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
Stand before two massive 18-meter (60-foot) quartzite statues that once guarded the entrance of Amenhotep III's mortuary temple – now almost completely lost to time. These twin statues have watched over Thebes for over 3,400 years. Your guide will share the fascinating Greek and Roman legends about the "singing statue" and take your photos from the best angles.
Photo opportunity: Panoramic shot of both statues with the West Bank hills behind.
You'll stop at a carefully selected local restaurant (not a tourist trap). Your included lunch consists of a set menu:
-
Starter: Egyptian mezze (hummus, tahini, baba ghanoush, salads)
-
Main: Choice of grilled chicken, kofta, or vegetarian option (stuffed eggplant or lentil soup)
-
Drinks: Water ; soft drinks or juice extra (pay locally)
-
Dessert: Seasonal fruit or small Egyptian pastry
Dietary needs: Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available – please notify TIA Tours at booking.
Explore the best-preserved mortuary temple of Ramesses III. Unlike Karnak or Luxor Temple, Habu Temple still has its original vivid colors intact on many reliefs. You'll see:
-
The massive Syrian Gate (modeled after a Syrian fortress)
-
The battle scenes of Ramesses III defeating the Sea Peoples
-
The well-preserved palace attached to the temple
-
The original ceiling colors in the hypostyle hall
Your guide will explain why this temple is considered the "hidden gem" of Luxor's West Bank.
Insider tip: Habu Temple is significantly less crowded than Valley of the Kings or Hatshepsut. This is where guides bring photographers and serious history lovers.
Step into the restored mud-brick home and laboratory of Howard Carter, the British archaeologist who discovered Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. This small but fascinating museum contains:
-
Carter's original tools and equipment
-
Photographs of the excavation (including the famous "curse" letter)
-
Replicas of the tomb's contents arranged as they were found
-
A peaceful garden where Carter lived for 10 years
Note: Carter House is a quiet, reflective stop – a perfect contrast to the massive temples.
Descend into the tombs of high-ranking officials (nobles, scribes, priests, and viziers) who served the pharaohs. Unlike royal tombs, these feature:
-
Daily life scenes: Farming, fishing, banqueting, dancing, and family gatherings
-
Intimate scale: Smaller but more personally decorated than the Valley of the Kings
-
Vivid colors: Often better preserved because they were sealed for longer
Your guide will select 2–3 of the best tombs based on current openings (commonly Ramose, Rekhmire, Sennofer, or Userhat).
Good to know: Tombs of the Nobles requires moderate bending and walking down narrow staircases. Not recommended for severe claustrophobia.
After completing all 6 historical sites, you'll drive back across the Nile to your original pickup location. Your guide will answer any final questions and help arrange any additional services (next day tours, dinner recommendations, etc.).
