We’ve always been fascinated by ancient Egypt beyond the pyramids, and this private day tour to Dendera and Abydos was everything we hoped for and more. From the moment we were picked up promptly at our Luxor hotel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, we knew we were in good hands.
Our guide, Amir, was exceptional—not only deeply knowledgeable about Egyptology but also clearly passionate about sharing the stories hidden within the temple walls. At Dendera, the Temple of Hathor left us speechless. The preservation of the vibrant colors on the ceilings and the breathtaking hieroglyphics felt like stepping back in time. Climbing to the roof for views of the complex was a definite highlight.
Then came Abydos—a site that doesn’t get as much attention but absolutely should. The Temple of Seti I is a masterpiece of ancient art and spirituality. Amir walked us through the intricate reliefs explaining the meaning behind the depictions of pharaohs and gods, making it all come alive.
The only small challenge was the heat (be sure to wear a hat and carry water!), but our driver had cold bottles waiting for us in the car, which was a lifesaver. Having a private tour meant we could take our time soaking in the atmosphere without feeling rushed.

This private day tour to Dendera and Abydos was the highlight of our time in Egypt. From start to finish, the experience was seamless. Our guide, Amin, was not only an expert in Egyptology but also a fantastic storyteller—he made the gods, pharaohs, and ancient rituals feel real and relevant.
Dendera Temple, dedicated to Hathor, dazzled us with its stunning blue ceilings, detailed carvings, and hidden passages. We even climbed to the roof for incredible views of the Nile Valley! At Abydos, we were blown away by the precision and beauty of the reliefs in the Temple of Seti I. The energy there felt truly sacred, and Amin’s explanations added so much depth to what we were seeing.
Yes, it was hot—very hot—so dress lightly, bring sunscreen, and stay hydrated. But the sites themselves are mostly shaded, and our air-conditioned vehicle and cold water provided by the team made the heat totally manageable.
